How does the media affect our perception of sexuality? (Part 1)

This advertisement is for Lynx Dry antiperspirant (or the Axe as it is known in the United States). The ad is attempting to state that this female is so good-looking that she would make any man sweat, thus men should wear antiperspirant to prevent perspiring. I find this advertisement to be completely inappropriate; first of all, this endorsement stereotypes a female doing the household task of cooking and sexualizes it with her only wearing her undergarments. It sends the message that females are sexy when they are submissively doing household chores, and it further degrades the female by showing her in his underwear. I feel that this particular type of promotion is not necessary to sell the product. Some other ways this item could be sold is by depicting a fully clothed male maybe attracting a clothed female or the company could have an advertisement that more prominently displays the actual product.  Females who see this advertisement will instantly compare their body to the female in the ad. They will question if their bodies are beautiful and might start thinking that fulfilling stereotype such as household tasks is attractive, and male consumers might actually start to believe in this definition of “beautiful”.
