How does the media affect our perception of sexuality? (Part 2)

This image is an advertisement for Dolce and Gabbana clothing. It depicts six youthful models are posing in various positions with the D&G logo in the right-hand corner. The connection between the product and the image are the clothes that being worn by the models. Although not as extreme as some of D&G’s images this advertisement is inappropriate. While this image depicts a sense of adventure and mystery, it also depicts a sexual image (one of the male models is grabbing a female model’s waist and another male model is on top of the seemingly “fainted” and thus defenseless model). These youthful models are being stereotyped as sexual youth, which sends the message to consumers that all young people are very sexual.  Without losing its selling appeal, the models could wear more or less revealing  clothing and perhaps pose in more appropriate positions, but use the same lighting to keep the air of mystery for the clothing.  These images may hurt the self-esteem consumers as these models also depict the “perfect” bodies. The male models in this image are muscular and the female models are extremely skinny, which conveys the idea that these models are the ideal look, even though they might be photoshopped.
